English Preparatory Programmes

Students whose English is not quite ready will have the following support pathways

English Additional Language (EAL)

To support students whose language skills need development in mainstream lessons, primary EAL support is provided daily, while secondary students receive dedicated EAL support sessions for 5 - 7 hours every two weeks.

Essential English Programme (EEP)

Students whose language skills require further development before joining mainstream lessons will participate in intensive English classes alongside selected mainstream classes, preparing them for a smooth transition to full mainstream participation.

Mandarin Proficiency

From Nursery to Year 9, all students are required to learn Mandarin, equipping them with valuable skills as China’s growing economic power fuels demand for individuals with Mandarin proficiency.

Primary Students

From Nursery to Year 6, all students receive 120 - 150 minutes of classes weekly, with students in higher year groups streamed into beginner, intermediate, and advanced proficiency groups.

Youth Chinese Test (YCT)

YCT is an internationally recognized Chinese language assessment for school students. At TIS Puchong, our students take YCT Level 2 to Level 4.

100% passes for YCT assessment in 2023.

Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK)

HSK is China’s standardized proficiency assessment for the Chinese language which is recognised worldwide. At TIS Kuala Lumpur, our students take HSK Level 1 to Level 5.

The percentile score of our students in 2023 was over 90% across the 5 levels of HSK assessment.

(Passing score for HSK is 60%)

Secondary Students

From Years 7 to 9, all students receive 120 - 150 minutes of classes each week with the Cambridge IGCSE Mandarin courses available for students in Years 10 and 11.

Malay Fluency

From Nursery to Year 9, all students are required to learn the Malay language to achieve practical fluency in everyday communication.
