Taylor's Bilingual Programme is an immersive English-Mandarin initiative designed to offer students a rigorous and enriching education. It aims to build strong language proficiency in both languages, academic excellence, and intercultural understanding. Through integrated learning, it equips students with essential skills to succeed in a globalised world.

How is the Bilingual Programme structured?
The programme is designed to offer balanced exposure to both English and Mandarin. Most lessons are co-taught by two qualified teachers: one leading in English and the other in Mandarin. Students receive six hours of dedicated English lessons and five hours of dedicated Mandarin lessons each week. Aside from specialist subjects like PE and Music, the rest of the curriculum is delivered using a bilingual approach, where one teacher leads the lesson and the other reinforces key vocabulary and concepts through translation and support.

What curriculum will be used for the Bilingual Programme?
For dedicated Mandarin lessons, students will follow the Chinese Made Easy syllabus used across the primary school. However, bilingual programme students will progress through the content at a faster pace due to the increased number of Mandarin lessons compared to their mainstream peers.

In English, students will follow the UK Curriculum, utilising the Red Rose Phonics scheme and Read Into Writing. For Maths, they will also follow the UK’s White Rose Maths scheme, with key concepts and instructions provided in either English or Mandarin as needed for better understanding. Additionally, the entire programme is aligned with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), ensuring a well-rounded, globally relevant education in primary.

Is the Bilingual Programme available for all year groups?
The Bilingual Programme is designed for Primary students. We are launching the programme for Year 1 only, and will progressively expand to higher year groups in the coming years.

Does my child need prior knowledge of Mandarin and English to join the programme?
Some prior knowledge of both English and Mandarin will be advantageous for your child, as this is a rigorous programme designed to build strong proficiency in both languages.

Will there be an entrance assessment?
Yes, students applying to the Bilingual Programme will have an interview to assess their skills in both English and Mandarin.
