Puchong, Tuesday, 27th March 2018 - Taylor's International School Puchong successfully held their 2nd musical, "Hairspray," from 22nd to 24th of March 2018. Performed by a cast and crew of 160 students, the musical was held in the Auditorium of Taylor's International School, Puchong. The musical had students performing a total of 13 songs in front of a crowd of 1156 over the three nights.
According to Mr Ian Schoeman, Head of Performing Arts for Taylor's International School Puchong, Hairspray was chosen to be this year's production as it is a fun, bright, 'typical high school' musical that talks about breaking the cultural barrier in America during the sixties through the eyes of the main character Tracy Turnblad. "Hairspray has given the students a window on what life was like for minorities and people who were different and I think now more than ever we need to embrace our differences because it is the wool from which the fabric of our modern society is woven," said Mr. Schoeman.
Following one of Taylor's International School Puchong's core values of creating an enjoyable environment, this musical gave our students a chance to learn not only to act but also to sing and dance on stage, to problem solve and work closely as a team. Many of the students who also participated in last year's musical quickly fell into the familiar practice routine supporting new students who made their stage debut this year.

Rehearsals started in January and saw the students learning, dance steps and songs with a sixties theme. Showing a passionate commitment in what they do, the students stayed back after school every day to practice and rehearse their scenes. "All of us work really hard during the rehearsals in ensuring we are able to perform at our very best during the show" said student Rachel Ting of Year 10 who played the main character, Tracy Turnblad.
This year's musical was also supported by a live orchestra which consist of our very own students. Led by Ms Rebecca Yap who is also the Head of Music for Taylor's International School Puchong this year saw an addition of string instruments which brought a different feeling to the musical. It truly was amazing to see the orchestra perform during the three nights as they accentuated the emotions and mood of the musical considerably.
The performance was truly wonderful and this key date in the annual diary will continue for many years to come.
