With the continued concerns over Covid-19 and the impact that it may have on lesson attendance and examinations, I am delighted to report that all the IGCSEs for Year 11 have been completed and with full attendance. The last exam was on Thursday 3rd June and following completion of this exam, examination scripts were sent later that day to Cambridge. A great job from many staff at TIS Puchong, particularly Ms Rajes who oversees the examination process.
We have also been looking at improving the oversight and management of exams and assessments that may be carried out whilst learners are at home accessing the lessons by Zoom. We have purchased an online exam management system that will ensure that we have a clear structure and process to perform examinations and assessments across the whole of Secondary school using an online option and with the possibility that the school will remain closed for the foreseeable future, it is also possible that IGCSE mock examinations could be completed online using this system. As and when this is needed for learners, they will be notified accordingly as assessments and tests are ongoing throughout Key stage 3 and 4 over the coming weeks.
Now that the IGCSEs have finished, this means that the teaching of Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin for Year 11 are no longer required. Instead we have structured an ‘Intervention’ program that will use these subject allocated time slots in the timetable for alternative subject support. In many cases we have actually added and allocated students into classes already and the intervention program will begin from Tuesday 8th June. For students not attending or have not been allocated to these intervention classes, they will have supervised examination support and preparation. This ‘Intervention’ program will run for this term and be reviewed before term 3 begins. You will also find that some students have been allocated support and extra intervention classes during some lunchtimes, this is to ensure that there is fairness and support for all who need this extra help at this time.
Finally, perhaps a highlight for this week was our ‘House’ event that took place on Wednesday which enabled students to participate in activities aimed at developing teamwork and comradery. It is great to see that alongside the continued academic focus, we were still able to ensure that a balanced approach to learning experiences and fun activities can be maintained across the school.
