As the week draws to a close, we end the Term 2 chapter of this academic year.
Term 2 has unfortunately been a term which was heavily affected by the Pandemic. We ended up only teaching in the building for a few days, after which learning had to continue online for the remainder of the term. Although numbers of new cases are currently climbing and already are at a record height, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Malaysia’s vaccination drive is now up to full speed with a high volume of people being vaccinated every day. I am pleased to say that the realistic expectation will be that our staff will be vaccinated by the 1st September.
The 1st September is the date that the Ministry of Education has pinpointed for a phased return of students to their schools. No further details have been shared so far, so we will have to wait for further announcements to find out which age groups this could possibly involve and what dates would be set for the various years. We will open the school up the moment we get authorisation to do so. At the same time, as before, we will also provide learning for those families who cannot enter Malaysia yet or would rather choose to stay at home for a little bit longer.
The end of term usually also includes saying goodbye to teachers and students leaving us. On Friday the Primary school said goodbye to Mr. Azwan in the PE department, Ms. Michelle in the Mandarin department and Mr. David from the school’s leadership team. We wish all of them all the best on the journey ahead of them and thank them for everything they have done for the students and families at TIS Puchong.
It is justified to just add a few extra words in regards to Mr. David’s departure. Mr. David has been part of the TIS Puchong journey from the very start. He literally swept builders' dust off classrooms floors the night before school opened and has been part of the primary schools senior Leadership team ever since. Mr. David has been a great support for staff, families and teachers and I am in no doubt that our community will miss him. However, we can only congratulate him on securing an exciting challenge as Head of Lower School at Harrow in Zhuhai, China. We wish him all the best in the future and are looking forward to receiving regular updates from China.
We have already informed you that we have appointed a new Assistant Head of Primary KS2 in the person of Ms. Annisa Pearce. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, her work permit application has been delayed. We now expect her to start her work with us at the beginning of the new year in January 2022.
I am now happy to announce to you that our very own Ms. Jessie Chislett has agreed to step in as interim Assistant Head of Primary KS2 for the duration of Term 3. We wish her lots of success and are confident that she will do a very good job supporting our families, students and teachers in KS2.
After the holidays we will welcome new students to our school and get acquainted with our new teachers, Ms. Yvonne will join the Mandarin team and Mr. Muhamad Hazmi will join the P.E. team.
The school will now enter a 3 week break and lessons will resume again on Monday 23rd August. We hope to see you all back then for the start of our term three. In the meanwhile, stay safe and take care.
