So as we move into February, the learning routines have been set out and established as we continue to cover the syllabus from the secondary school through the home learning environment for Years 7 to 10. It is great to see that we have continued to adapt to this process so effectively, parents, students and teachers alike. It has always been the vision of the secondary school to aim to meet the needs of each individual learner. There are definite differences between class based learning compared to home based learning, however the vision is the same.
In the past two weeks we have been able to complete the Year 7 CAT testing online, run Year 11 mock speaking and writing examinations for Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin and establish subject based assessments across all subjects that ensure that teachers are now more informed about the progress of the learners in their classes. We continue to be so encouraged by what has been achieved by all our learners under the guidance of teaching department teams.
We have been delighted that we have been able to bring the Year 11s back into the school for the start of this term and as part of the unpredictability of the plans for the rest of the term and that we have had over 85% of Year 11s attending classroom based learning, we have changed the termly planning for some practical subjects, particularly science. We have been focusing on delivering as many practical experiments as possible based on building on what they have already learned from the topics covered so far. This means that whether we have to change to home based learning or continue within the school based learning we have been able to provide the exposure necessary to gain a clear understanding of experimental science experiences.
This coming week we are planning to run the Year 9 CAT assessments on Wednesday online. This will provide us with a good set of data of the progress made towards targets concerning IGCSE indicators for each Year 9 learner. This will also provide additional information to help consider future decisions on IGCSE choices.
It was great to see so many parents at the ‘Zoom’ meetings last week and we have been so encouraged by the continued support shown from our parents on the structures that we have established to ensure effective learning opportunities for all our learners.
