Now the haze has, at least temporarily, moved away from the school, we were finally able to return to normal service and therefore we were very happy to welcome our families back in school.
Last week, we did not publish a newsletter and this is why I would like to return to an event that took place just over a week ago.
Mark Reardon, the senior consultant from Quantum learning is currently over from the States to spend a couple of weeks with our school communities in both Kuala Lumpur and Puchong. For me, one of the highlights of his visit was the parent information session that was organised on Wednesday. Mark Reardon is a knowledgeable, highly skilled presenter who engages with his audience in the most entertaining manner. However, the memory that will stay with me is how our teachers described what they and their students have gained from implementing the QL learning system. Ms. Hindu explained how she noticed that the QL approach has changed the dynamic in the classroom in such a way that the children now are challenged to think for themselves much more and at are thinking at a deeper level. Ms. Alice shared with us how working with the QL system had actually not only changed her as a teacher but also as a person. She talked about how, in a Quantum culture, there is reciprocal respect between a teacher and a student. Quantum frames this as ‘big me and big you’, a relationship that leads to great learning. Miss Latha talked about how Quantum had helped her to become much more deliberate in everything she plans and does in school, thus becoming more effective in making students’ learning happen. All in all very positive examples on how the Quantum Learning System is helping our teachers to get the most out of our students!
Unfortunately, our International day that was planned for today, had to be cancelled because of the haze. You might note that the haze is actually gone. However, a decision had to be made earlier in the week when the forecast was that today would still see unhealthy levels. International Day is now planned for next Friday, the fourth of October. I hope that many will still be able to make it as it promises to be an informative, enjoyable and tasty experience!
