The haze has gone and we have had a full week. It is wonderful to have the school back in its prime, with the children doing what they do best: learning. I want to thank you for your support during the haze period. Decisions to close or keep the school open are never easy. Incidentally, when we decided to keep the school open on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, the attendance on each day was over 85%. I was very aware and concerned about parents who have to work and therefore wanted to cause minimum disruption.
This week in Secondary, Year 10 students are having their exams, Year 11 students are working hard to prepare for their own exams later in October and there is a myriad of activities in Years 7-9. In Primary meanwhile, there was a Year 6 excursion on Wednesday to the Telecom museum and a Robotic workshop and I am told the students were very interested and asked a lot of pertinent questions. In other years, students are happy to be back at school in lessons.
Last week, it is worth mentioning also that we had Mr. Mark Reardon, a Quantum Learning expert from the United States, who was here to speak to parents on Wednesday. 75 parents attended a very illuminative talk on the new learning we are implementing in classrooms. In addition, on Saturday, we had 140 members of staff who attended a full day workshop. Both events were instructive and very enjoyable.
Lastly, yesterday we had the inaugural meeting of the reformed Parents, Teachers and Friends (PTF) and I am happy to announce that nominated positions were filled and we have a quorum of members that will represent your views. I would like to congratulate here:
Ms. Lim Sue Lin – Vice Chairperson, Ms. Janice Wong Roche – Treasurer and Mr. Irfan Amer Bin Mohd Ismail – Secretary. I am very much looking forward to working closely with the PTF to continue improving the school together.
Once again thank you for your support and encouragement, particularly during the haze period. I am hoping that now it will be truly over for this year at least and we can get back to normal.
Have a week ahead.
Kind regards Stefano Piumatti Principal of Taylor’s International School Puchong
