In our final week we took part in The Annual against Tenby International School and TIS Kuala Lumpur in what was the largest amount of students we have ever taken to a tournament.
On Wednesday we travelled to Tenby International School to play boys and girls Football under 9, 11, 13 and 15, Volleyball under 13 and 15, Basketball under 16 and Teeball under 9 and 11. The day was fantastic, well organised and a pleasure to be a part of. We won numerous age categories for the various sports we participated in but the main takeaway from the day was the top class attitude of the players who played so well and, as they always are, were a credit to the school. Everyone competed excellently and we take away some very good memories for the day, as well as using it as a good preparation for our upcoming term 3 fixtures.
Also on Wednesday we said goodbye to Mr Shane Matthew Owen. He has contributed immensely to our Physical Education programme, particularly in the IGCSE curriculum and for this we are all very grateful. He received plenty of goodbye presents as well as a couple of cakes and I’m sure he will come back to visit from time to time! We held two All Star Staff vs Student Football matches this week as a farewell to him and they were extremely entertaining and played in good spirits. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career in Thailand and look forward to hearing what a success it is.
With big sadness comes great opportunity. We have recruited Mr Shane's replacement who will be coming into the role in August as a direct replacement as Head of Secondary Physical Education. His name is Mr Wasim and he comes with a vast amount of experience from working in a large established International School in Egypt for the last 6 years. He is very much looking forward to the opportunity and we are excited for his arrival.
Looking back on this term, it is clear that we are progressing hugely with our sports teams. Out of 12 trophies available in Volleyball in both KLISS and KL Sports League, we managed to win 7 of them. For one school to win over half of the awards spread over 3 age groups is an incredible achievement and goes to show just how much we have dominated the division this year. No team in both KLISS or KL Sports League won more trophies than us this term, which tells me that the players are working and training hard, as well as how much dedication my coaches have shown throughout the year. We are very well prepared for what is to come in term 3 and cannot wait to get started next term.
What has pleased me the most this term is to see how happy the players are when they take part in our sports teams and how much of a togetherness there is between the students and coaches. We are all in it together and we all enjoy ourselves as we are achieving these fantastic feats. Congratulations to all the champions who have been created so far this year and a huge thank you to students, coaches and parents for all your support. Bring on term 3.
