I have seen such lovely delights this week. Filling my heart with joy, purpose and belief in this school. On Wednesday (Secondary) and then today - Friday (Primary) witnessed two wonderful Deepavali celebrations full of pomp, colour and passion, (incidentally the theme for the week in Primary). It was such an honour to lead the procession in Secondary to alight the Diwali candles and to speak about the solemnity but also the joy of such occasions. It is lovely to see all of us partaking and participating in such events as it provides us with a real spirit of belonging and communion. The staff and students on both days were resplendent in their colourful clothes and the dancing and singing superb. A huge number of you turned up for the Primary event and it was such fun seeing the littles one performs their routines. The highlight, perhaps, if measured by the raucous shrieks of delight by the audience in both schools was the teacher dancing. Just wonderful to see and I can see so many hidden skills.
It is not often in my school career that I have entered a classroom to see students rolling and kneading flour and water. I thought I had erroneously arrived at a Bread convention. In a way, I had because of course this was Year 5’s Bake It themed Exit point as part of their IPC. I was most impressed with the amount of Science and indeed Chemistry knowledge that a lot of the students seemed to understand. I found students confidently telling me about catalyst and dormant and active conditions, and explaining the mechanics of the work that the yeast was doing and why. One boy was able to tell me the difference between leavened and unleavened bread and most were able to explain the chemical transitions occurring. Some of this is not learned till much later in high school.
Thank you for your support and for coming to our events such as the Bake It Exit point and of course the Deepavali celebrations. It leaves me to say have a blessed Deepavali holiday.
Kind regards Stefano Piumatti Principal of Taylor’s International School Puchong
