“So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth” - Baha’i Writings
We celebrate International Day today, and it was a great display of unity between parents, teachers and our brilliant learners. The theme for this year is ‘The Conscious Traveller’ which we linked to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and also coinciding aptly with this week’s RECIPE plus, Global Citizens.
Education on global citizenship from an early age is most beneficial; the United Nations states “the primary aim of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is nurturing respect for all, building a sense of belonging to a common humanity and helping learners become responsible and active global citizens…aiming to empower learners to assume active roles to face and resolve global challenges and to become proactive contributors to a more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure world.”
A common goal for us at TIS Puchong is to instil shared global values which shape our learners to become active participants in an ever-changing world - hence raising them ready. We adhere to a philosophy of education that touches upon reconstructionism - social reconstructionism is a contemporary philosophy that emphasises on the addressing of social issues and social reforms. Students exercise the agency to create a better society for all and an improvement in worldwide democracy.
The Multi Purpose Hall was transformed into an amazing space with a plethora of activities for all to experience. There were different booths which focussed on energy conservation, the environment, heritage and culture, language, and of course, Malaysia’s most favourite topic of conversation, food! Parents had a delicious spread of food for sale including Nasi Lemak, a Malaysian must, Korean chicken and Chinese dumplings.
