Our last newsletter is dated the 30th April, before Hari Raya, when we were celebrating the start of Term 2 with great examples of catchy IPC Entry Points. Now we find ourselves back online, learning from home. This with the exception of our Early Years classes, who are still allowed to be taught face to face. Although the reason why the teachers were able to switch so smoothly is not great (the repeated switches), it is good to see how quickly we were able to adapt to the new situation. Our teachers have become well equipped to ensure that our children’s learning will not be interrupted. Just like at the beginning of the year, we will endeavour to keep the school’s timetable and calendar the same as much as possible. This also means for example that our weekly Primary school assemblies on Fridays continue as normal. The Year 1 to Year 3 classes have theirs at 09:30 and the upper part of the primary school have theirs at 10:00. They last for about 30 minutes and all parents, grand-parents are of course welcome to join us for those sessions.
Today’s assemblies were all about the RECIPE ingredient ‘Striving for Excellence’. With the help of two apt songs, we spoke with the children about the importance of trying your best and the willingness to ‘have a go’, as a way to get to excellence. Without the mindset to actually work hard and put yourself out there, it is impossible to reach any levels of excellence. The children also spoke about how actually trying things out will eventually lead to self-confidence and how that would bring us to a full circle!
This week I met with the Primary School class parents. I am grateful that we can still meet despite the MCO. Contact between the school and the parents is so important to maintain our sense of belonging, maintaining our connection to this unique community we all belong to. I urge all of us to stay in touch with each other during these challenging times. The school’s teachers and leaders are always available for you!
Our Student Council is always involved in support of worthwhile causes. They would like to share the following with you. “Thank you families of TISPC for your generosity in contributing to the Titian Kasih food drive. With our collective effort, we are now able to distribute the much needed goods to a few charity homes supporting underprivileged families. We are truly grateful for your support!”.
In the last week before the holidays, we celebrated ‘reading’ during our annual Book Week.
