During my learning walks this week, I specifically focused on the Year 11 classes as I wanted to see how the preparations for the IGCSEs were progressing. With the upcoming mock examinations, it is crucial that learners take these seriously because this lays the foundation for the final examinations in October/November. It was clear that some learners are a little anxious and yet it was also clear some are very focused and clearly preparing well. As some subject teachers are just coming to the end of teaching the syllabus for their subject, once the coverage has been completed this will increase the amount of revision classes and activities taking place and therefore also increase the opportunities to help more individuals with their exam preparation. All teachers and learners have a very positive attitude towards learning at present, which I am sure will flow into the exam preparation and revision sessions.
In our Secondary assembly this week we had the opportunity to share in the successes of the learners who competed in the Eco Week and Diversity day competitions. We were so encouraged by the commitment and hard work from all learners and teachers. Even the teachers had awards for embracing their classes project by wearing clothes that supported and enhanced the theme they were presenting. It was a fun amazing learning experience for all our learners and with over 10000 RM raised for local charities, it was a great success for all.
A major highlight for the week came from our MUN club. Our Model United Nations team setup an event called an IntraMUN. This essentially gave the opportunity for learners to be part of an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. From the first day with the opening remarks from the Principal on Wednesday to the final day and the closing ceremony on Friday, it was clear that this event would become something of an annual event. An amazing successful event and all the MUN club representatives need to be acknowledged for their commitment and hard work in making it such a success, well done to all.
Perhaps the challenge next year might be to create an international MUN Conference with delegates coming to TIS Puchong from other international schools from Malaysia.
