Without doubt, after a strong start to the year was halted, along with the entire world we have learned some valuable lessons from 2020.
We made a flying start to 2020 in term 1 training and competing to a high standard by taking our first, and what proved to be only, championships of the year in Basketball and Football. One major highlight was 5 of our elite Volleyball players being selected for MSSS after competing in the county tournament for MSSD with the school. Unfortunately, apart from one other Athletics tournament we took part in, this was to be the only sporting action of the year.
As a PE department we have learned so much this year, as I’m sure most have. We have learned to teach what is essentially a practical subject online, how to keep it fun and exciting, and how to adjust to life in an online world. We have researched the best methods possible to introduce to our students and tried to provide them with different elements of learning that they may never have received in PE during their face-to-face lessons. We attempted to use this time as a learning curve and to push ourselves to teach, and our students to learn, in a very different way during their online PE learning experience.
I must say a big thank you to our Primary PE Head of department Ms Farah and our Secondary PE Head of department Mr Wasim. Their constant hard work and dedication including evenings and weekends in the build up and managing of the online classroom material has been nothing short of exceptional. They have pushed the boundaries and disseminated information to the department which has been easy to understand and beneficial for our students throughout the online learning period. One sad note from this year is that Ms Hidayah will be leaving us after 4 years. She has been a fantastic member of staff and we are extremely proud of all the work she has done and will be sad to see her go. We thank her for all the hard work and amazing memories she leaves us with.
We have clear targets and goals for 2021 and we are so excited to get started on them in the coming year. These include creating more teams than we ever have in our history, starting the exclusive and exciting AIMS leagues along with the largest international schools in the country, and designing a world class curriculum which will be differentiated so that every learner will achieve their potential in Physical Education.
To finish, I’d like to thank you, the parents, for all your sacrifices and commitments you have made this year. I realise it has been a year like no other and whilst I’m sure you’re probably sick of hearing that, I can promise you that next year will be better, and full of opportunities and memories here in TIS Puchong. I look forward to seeing you all again for a year full of hope and ambition, starting on January 7th.
