With the IGCSEs for Year 11 now well underway, the busy focus for learners in their preparation for these examinations is tangible. So far these exams have gone very well and we are pleased with the attitude shown by all candidates. In relation to this, we also had a visit from a Cambridge Examination Board Inspector who came to look at how we organise our examination process. His report states that we have an excellent process and all guidelines and processes required are followed closely. A great report that shows the foundations for creating the correct examination environment for our learners is clearly present.

This week our Year 9s have participated in this year's Jom Menari, with the culmination of this event and final performances on Saturday. I know that the rehearsals in the week were pretty mixed with some serious practice and nervous presentations, however the final performances were outstanding and another clear example of the depth of talent in our learners at TIS Puchong. I must thank the performing arts team for another amazing effort in supporting our learners to excel in the on stage talents.

One of the highlights that Year 7 learners have been involved in these past few weeks has been participating in planned transitional lessons between Year 7 learners and Year 4 learners in Primary. These have been aimed to extend the opportunities for leadership experience whilst also extend their knowledge for cooperation and teamwork skills in problem solving activities based around coding and programming using robotic resources. Two Year 7 learners were paired with one Year 4 learner to work in groups and used programmable coding modular blocks to solve specific computer coding problems. We are delighted with how this has progressed and we are planning to extend this into Year 8 and Year 5 next year.

This week we have also initiated two further student leadership programs for learners to participate in.

The first is the “CAmbassadors” program which will bring opportunities for learners to participate in advising other learners who may find some difficulties interacting with friends. These CAmbassadors will be taken through a training program that will help them to support other learners find help with some of their problems, this training will be led and overseen by our school counsellor, Ms Evelyn Wong.

The second of these initiatives will be a Student Learning Committee. These learners will be selected using our current award system for identifying “Learning Leaders”. The Learning Leaders, as part of the committee will be advising other learners on aspects of learning like, preparing and managing homework, revising for exams and creating study groups.

We are excited about both of these initiatives as this will further enhance the leadership skills of learners at TIS Puchong and prepare them for understanding aspects of being a leader in the future.
