Over the last couple of weeks, the primary school also had to cope with the preventative measures taken in regards to the COVID-19 virus. We, unfortunately, had to postpone a number of school trips and cancel our assemblies for the time being. We would like to thank parents for their kind understanding.
There were a number of IPC-exit points that had originally been planned in with the intention of inviting parents in to share the learning with us. Due to the measures taken, they had to go ahead without the parents coming to school. The children still did an excellent job presenting their learning to teachers and peers.
On Tuesday, Year 5 ended their IPC unit of learning ‘Look, Hear’ with their Exit-Point in which they shared their learning with the Year 3 classes. The presentation included a number of very interesting experiments. A day later, Year 2 had their IPC unit of learning ‘We are what we eat’ Entry point. The children had an amazing entry point collaborating with Cezars kitchen. We had talks by a nutritionist and cookie baking was facilitated by our Chef. The children had fun baking and dressed up like mini chefs. They also had lots of conversations and questions about healthy food choices.
On Wednesday, Year 1 had their IPC unit of learning ‘Live and Let Live’ Entry Point. We were lucky to have a special visit from Dr Shyla, a veterinarian doctor. Dr Shyla came to share her knowledge and skills with the children. She delivered an interesting presentation to the children about the roles and responsibilities of a vet and some interesting experiences she had working as a vet.
Year 3 and Year 4 also had fantastic Exit Points this week. Year 3 has been learning about the brain and how we learn. Year 4 has been learning about other parts of the Human Body. The children did a fantastic job presenting their ideas to their peers. It is fascinating watching young children show such confidence in the way they communicate.
Our youngest learners in EY have started to explore their new outdoor learning environment and are enjoying the opportunities for investigation, sharing experiences and wondering about the things around them. As this was their first experience with the ‘big outdoors’, the learners had unstructured play which allowed them to venture into the unknown and discover their new area.
Unstructured play enables children to come up with their own ideas, tap into their creativity and make up games together. Some children made mud pies in the kitchen and Ms. Nienke was served with a milo mud pie as well as a flower and leaf tea. They were very generous as she didn't have to pay a bill because the children decided it was her first time in their restaurant. A kind waiter made sure that she went home a happy customer. Ms. Nienke highly recommends the newly opened restaurant - it is one to watch out for!
