The children have had lots to share about their holiday experiences and I hope everyone has had a wonderful break with Hari Raya Aidilfitri and other family celebrations. Term Two started off with an abundance of positivity as the government eases its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safely reopening the country. Here at Taylor’s, the children are back at school and we share their excitement as they reunite with their friends.
In classes, we are back delving into a more colourful variety of activities indoors and outdoors, and today with restrictions lifted, we had our very first face-to-face whole school assembly in the main school hall since the lockdown. It was a joy to see the delightful smiles on everyone’s faces as we gathered together in what seemed like a very first union.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to two new members of staff in Year 5; Miss Lizzie who is our Year 5 Leader, and also Mr Matthew who recently graduated from Taylor’s University. In addition to that, we also welcome Miss Mohana and Miss Ezza back to school after their maternity breaks. Our Taylor’s family now feels joyous and full of spark as we team up together for an exciting new term.
This week both the IEYC and IPC units had their Entry Points and the children were getting busy with the many activities in their respective year groups. In Early Years, the children dressed up as storybook characters and teachers went to different classes to tell classic stories such as ‘Peter Pan’.
In Year 1, ‘Let’s Celebrate’ is the new unit and the children are exploring celebrations around the world whilst learning about their host country celebrations. It was a food-tasting activity where they sampled traditional food such as ladu, muruku, ketupat and mooncakes. For Year 2’s ‘Look and Listen’ unit, children discovered the different uses of sound and sight, how these impact our mood and how they can also be used to highlight our expressions. The children looked into a variety of hand puppets and learned how to use them to tell stories with different light creating various impacts on mood and the dramatisation of settings.
In Key Stage 2, Entry Points involved Year 3 digging for dinosaur fossils at the school field for the ‘Footprints from the Past’ unit and virtually exploring the Natural History Museum in the Auditorium. Year 4s dressed up as ‘Adventurers and Explorers’ while Year 5 students went around the school looking for and linking story puzzle pieces for their ‘Myths and Legends’ unit, learning about international cultures through traditional tales passed down from older generations throughout time. In Year 6, students discovered life on islands and how this affects ecosystems in their new ‘Earth as an Island’ unit.
As we embark on this post-Covid period, I look forward to welcoming parents and guardians back into the school to gather and engage as we share and showcase our children’s learning journeys.
