Last weekend saw history made, with our Volleyball under 18 girls winning their KLISS championship which was our first ever trophy for girls Volleyball, and the boys achieving 3rd place in their tournament.
On Saturday we hosted the KLISS Volleyball under 18 tournament. It was an 8-team tournament involving some of the most established schools in the country. Our girls consisted of mainly under 15 players with a couple of 16 year olds. In our first game we played British International School. We won the first set, with our opponents taking the second, meaning we needed to win the 3rd and we did! A close game, but we came out with an important first win. We went on to beat IGB International School and HELP International School, meaning we finished top of our group and qualified to play ISP International School in the semi-finals. The first match was extremely close, with ISP needing two points to win, we went on a fantastic run and ended up winning. We took the 2nd set comfortably to set up a final against British International School. The fact we made it to the final was a victory in itself, but these girls do not know when to stop. The first set was a nervous affair, with both teams evenly matched. It went to a tie breaker and we won it. In the 2nd set our girls were determined to bring home our first ever Volleyball girls trophy in our history, and we did it! Winning by a huge margin, these girls created their own history. It was an incredible win considering the age and size of our players. As their coach, I was so proud of what they’ve achieved. I’ve witnessed first hand their determination and how hard the train in our double training sessions and nobody deserves this victory more. Just like Liverpool Football Club, we rose to the occasion and came away with the victory. Congratulations to my whole team.
On the same day our boys, coached by Mr Shane, travelled to Tenby International School to compete in their tournament. With a small squad due to a couple of drop outs, it was not going to be easy to be successful. Our boys also went with a predominantly under 15 team. They win 3 out of their 4 group games which qualified them for the 3rd/4th place play off. They played the hosts, Tenby in the play off game. Our boys played magnificently, achieving an unexpected bronze medal out of the 10 teams in the tournament which we were all extremely pleased about.
On Thursday our Volleyball boys and girls under 13 team travelled to IGB International School for some preparation matches before our KL Sports League and KLISS finals in June. Both our boys and girls played excellently, winning the majority of their matches and getting some vital match experience under their belt.
We have football trials taking place in the last week of May and the first week back in June. We very much look forward to putting a new set of teams together. The trial dates and times are on both the instagram (taylors.lightning) and outside the PE office.
