One of the toughest questions for us as educators is to think about what children need to learn to ‘raise them ready’ for the future. It makes us think about what needs to be taught, what needs to be learned and what attitudes need to be developed. Our purpose is to educate the youth of the world to take their productive place as leaders in a global community.
Through the IEYC and the IPC curriculum, children learn about the differences between countries and people - they are being exposed to the different perspectives that people have. Through the lens of geography, history and society, we not only learn about the differences of clothes, food, flags, celebrations, art and music that make us unique and special, we also learn about what unites us and makes us all human. For example, humans around the world use food to celebrate events, have traditional costumes for milestone occasions and express themselves through literacies, the arts, drama and music.
An important skill for the children to develop is the ability to express themselves and their opinions confidently and in a respectful manner in order to investigate the multitude of differences and celebrate our uniqueness as well as our connectedness.
Our core values of RECIPE are essential in the development of international attitudes. Respecting and caring for others and the way they express themselves, is supporting an enjoyable environment where all children feel welcome and in which their language, culture and traditions are explored and celebrated.
The ability to learn, share, communicate and cooperate with people around them, other than their direct friendship groups will form a strongly rooted foundation for their future journeys.
The learning of this knowledge and the development of these skills and attitudes will enable the children to deepen their understanding of the people in the world around them, without judging and labelling but with wonder and curiosity.
United we stand, divided we fall
Bersatu kita teguh bercerai kita robohOutdoor LearningWe are so excited for the children to be able to use the outdoors as their learning environment again starting this week. The EY have used their river, mud kitchen and outdoors to investigate, ask questions, role play and wonder about the natural world.
The children were reminded about the ‘physical distancing’, which is still in place, and learned how to stay safe and how to respect the animals that live in the environment.
