I was so pleased to see so many of our learners this week, Primary and Secondary, participating in the robotics events happening each day in the Atrium. At break times learners were given the opportunity to investigate hands on robotic activities and discover how robotic skills are used. We are so pleased to see the interest and curiosity of these emerging technologies being used in our Secondary curriculum, I know our learners enjoy these experiences, but also this is essential in helping learners recognise that these skills are so relevant for career pathways in the future.
Another main focus in Secondary this week has been the start of the Year 11 IGCSEs, which was initiated by the ICT IGCSE examination. This will be a busy 4 weeks ahead for our current Year 11s and and I know so much support has been offered by teachers and parents alike, essential for our Year 11 learners to feel they have a framework to lean on.
During these next four weeks for Year 11 we are running a typical normal timetable where possible. In some cases examinations where a large number of candidates are participating, this will mean that the attendance for that specific support class will be affected. Also as some specific subject examinations have been completed, meaning that no further IGCSE examination for that subject is required, then we will be collapsing the timetable and classes accordingly, this will give us the opportunity to be more efficient in the support required for the outstanding subject examinations.
During these weeks, some parents have asked for their child to have study leave, before and after some examinations. In each case, please email your request direct to moreton.michaeldavid@pc.tis.edu.my . If approved, you will get a confirmation email from the Secondary office. I must stress that we are organising revision support and specific subject classes throughout this examination period and I know it would benefit the learners attending these options.
The Year 10 examinations have been completed and I must thank all parents for ensuring that their child was at school during this period, these Year 10 examinations have gone very well and examination script feedback has been given to learners. The grades for this examination will be listed in the Term 3 report for each Year 10 learner.
The key stage 3 examinations are now almost complete and again we are very pleased with the response from learners through this process.
Finally I would like all parents to consider the value of the extra curricular experience gained from the educational residential trips that we organise. The value of learners developing independent skills in these experiences cannot be undervalued. The more independent our learners become, the more self aware they become of the aspects that influence their learning. This encourages greater ownership of their own learning experiences. The residential trips aim to develop these independent skills outside of the normal learning environment, helping them to discover more about themselves and their potential. If you have not signed your child up for a residential trip, I would strongly encourage you to do so to maximise their opportunities for developing their potential for attainment.
