With some huge results and championships being won this year, it could be considered as being one of the most successful weeks in our history.
On Monday we took 45 students to our annual KLISS cross country championships at MARDI. We achieved some great results and performed above expectations as Ms Haliza’s group of athletes finished 5th overall out of the 9 schools which is our best finish since we began taking students to this event. We now focus on Athletics for next term which is a sport which we hope we can perform a lot better next year.
Also on Monday my Football under 15 boys played their KLISS cup finals at HELP International School. They were underdogs, going into the tournament with an impressive 2-1 from the previously canceled tournament. We drew 0-0 with TIS Kuala Lumpur in a tight affair knowing that if we beat St Joseph’s international School in the final group game then we’d be crowned champions. It was a nervy first half but we came away with a huge victory to win the championship! It was the first time in 4 years that TIS Kuala Lumpur did not win the championship. A huge achievement from our boys.
The next achievement was an even bigger one. The same team as above traveled to St Joseph's International School to compete for the KL Sports League finals. However, this time we were missing 5 of our first team players so drafted in a few of our development team players which meant we had only 1 substitute and played our back up goalkeeper in defence! We lost our first match 1-0 to Sri KDU International School then played HELP International School knowing we needed a win to stay in the competition. We won a hard fought close match to progress to the semi finals! We played against a strong TIS Kuala Lumpur side and beat them 1-0 to reach the final! In the final vs Sri KDU International School we were 1-0 down looking defeated, but with 3 minutes to go we struck twice and won 2-1 to become champions! An incredibly huge win when we were massive underdogs.
As well as this, on Tuesday Ms Farah took our Basketball under 11 boys traveled to TIS Kuala Lumpur to compete for their KL Sports League championship. Our boys performed excellently, carrying on the good work they have been putting in during training and came home with the championship beating TIS Kuala Lumpur 2-13, St Joseph’s International School 21-5 and HELP International School 24-10! We were champions with a 100% record! Another huge achievement and something which may just be recognised at the Sports Awards next week! On the same evening Mr Zul took Mr Firdaus’s Football under 13 development team to compete for their KLISS bowl tournament. They pushed and tried as hard as they could and got all the way to the final but just missed out on the championship losing a narrow final 1-0.
On Wednesday our Benchball under 9 teams competed for their KLISS cup finals with the boys traveling to IGB International School whilst the girls went to TIS Kuala Lumpur. The girls have been in great form this year and they carried this form into the tournament with Mr Zul (in Mr Azharul’s absence as he has just had a newborn baby!). They played some extremely close matches, needing to raise their game as each game past, but they did it, they won all their games to be crowned champions!!! Yet another championship and a fantastic reward for all the hard work from Mr Azharul and our girls team. Ms Hidayah’s boys also played very well, going far and just missing out on 3rd place and bronze medal in a close match with just a point separating us and TIS Kuala Lumpur. We also have many fixtures on Thursday 7th November and Friday 8th November which I will provide the match reports for these fixtures in next week’s newsletter.
Next week is the arrival of our annual Sports Awards Premiere ceremony 2019. Primary will have their event on Thursday 14th November at 5pm-7pm and Secondary will have theirs on Friday 15th November from 2.30pm-5pm. Please ensure you arrive on time as the event will become full very quickly. We as a department are extremely excited for these awards and we hope it will be one of the highlights of the year for our students who have been magnificent and dedicated all year.
