As I am writing this the whole of Malaysia is in anticipation of the PM’s announcement regarding the COVID-19 Conditional Movement Control order and what will happen after Tuesday. In the eyes of many experts Malaysia has done a stellar job in flattening the curve and controlling this pandemic inside its borders. Now the government is executing an ‘exit-strategy’ already allowing some sectors to return to work.
We do not yet know what will happen with the schools, but as long as our school building remains closed, we will continue to facilitate learning online.
Throughout the year groups there are multiple examples on how learning has continued to take place. This is the case for the oldest and the youngest. Online we saw Nursery children starting to blend two sounds in their reading process. The Early Years children have used the Storyboard approach to learn about the structure of a story. Learning is happening and it’s happening online.
I am also impressed on how the teachers come up with creative out-of-the-box ideas to still make IEYC and IPC Entry and Exit-Points happen. The latest example is the Exit-Point in Year 1, wrapping up their learning on ‘A Day In The Life’, a unit that focuses on professions. The children shared some terrific videos in which they introduced their favourite professions and shared their future ambitions. There were so many extracts to choose from. In the photograph we see Zoie from 1U interviewing her dad regarding his job as a Sales Director!
In Year 6 the children created their own books online. This time the theme was ‘warnings'. Again, there were many examples of excellent work. There was, for example, Cadence’s book ‘The Fog Around the Forest’ in which she also drew the illustrations herself.
I hope all families will enjoy a long weekend ahead with the Agong’s birthday on Monday. For those children who enjoy story time, I’ll share another Picture book story Monday at 2PM, with the Big Friendly Giant continuing at 3PM. Invitations will be sent via Remind.
I hope to see all of our children back in school very soon, until then, take care!
