This week has been a time for reflection of the incredible success we have achieved so far this year as trainings for our term 3 sport teams start to gather pace.
This year up to now has been, trophy-wise and in terms of numbers of student participation has excelled anything we have ever seen. We have smashed all previous records by large margins and pushed ourselves to ensure we have as many first teams and development squads as we could possibly get. This is through the tireless work of my staff as well as the commitment and attitude of our students. There have also been many fantastic stories from not winning last year to becoming champions this year through hard work and training that I’d like to share.
One of these stories is from our Volleyball under 13, 15 and 18 girls. Last year we finished with silver medals, 2nd place in both KL Sports League and KLISS remarkably for all three age groups. Getting so far - all the way to the final - but not having either the experience or ability to get over the line. This year all three teams trained intensely, with only one focus - winning the championship this time. They all competed for both the KL Sports League and KLISS trophies, meaning there were six trophies in total between the three teams to win. Out of these, we won an unprecedented five! And got to the final of the other. Mr Firdaus and I, who coach these teams, are extremely proud of them - so much so that we are continuing to coach them all year round, even though the Volleyball season has finished. These girls should be an example of how determination, adequate coaching and setting targets can aid in your aspirations for success.
There are of course many other teams that this applies to. Our Basketball under 15 girls also won the double championship. As did our Football under 9 girls. Our Volleyball under 18 boys won their first ever trophy. Our Volleyball under 13 boys retained their KL Sports League crown. I could be here all day going through the memories these teams have created. These stories should serve as inspiration for our teams who have currently begun training for their tournaments in term 3.
I will finish with one enormous statistic. In the whole of this term we have won more trophies than any other school in KLISS...and more trophies than any other school in KL Sports League. A monumental effort from our players, our coaches and the parents who come to cheer your children on. No one could have predicted that in our 3rd year of sports teams we would be competing with these established international schools, some of whom have been around for decades. As said previously, trophies are nice but mass participation is our main objective. We have achieved this and so much more. A true team effort.
