Many of our classes have just started a new IPC unit of learning. The IPC explains that during our units we use what we call the 'Process of Learning', which consists of six stages. After a successful first stage Entry Point the next step is called a 'Knowledge Harvest'.
The Knowledge Harvest provides teachers with the chance to find out what children already know about the theme and helps them to personalise the unit by finding out what children want to learn in order to adapt their lessons. It reinforces connections between existing and new learning and allows children to take ownership of their learning. By having a more accurate understanding of knowledge already acquired by students on the subject area, makes planning lessons across all subjects more targeted to facilitating new knowledge. At TIS Puchong we know that the Knowledge Harvest is a very important part of the IPC Unit cycle as it really helps to progress the learning. Do ask your children about it!
Our Year 5 learners experienced a special IPC research activity this week. Reefcheck Malaysia conducted a series of talks and workshops on the causes of water pollution; providing the children with lots of information to process!
In our Friday assembly, we concluded our charity push to provide the Orang Asli children attending pre-school classes with school recourses. This is through the charity Suka. This charity supports young Orang Asli children. One of the ways they do this is to provide greater access to education for them.

Our students came to school in colourful attire and were invited to donate crayons and pencils. The children in the Student Council came up with a very suitable name for this event 'Colour a happy future'. During the assembly Ms. Valerie hopped around the hall, checking the donations from every year-group whilst the 'score-board' was updated in real-time. The counter stopped at 356 crayon and 294 pencil packets. An amazing result which will make many children very happy. Thank you, Student Council, and the teachers who supported this worthwhile initiative!
