One of the main focus that was shared with learners this week was the visit by Mr Mark Reardon from Quantum Learning. In the two days that Mr Reardon was in the Secondary school, together with a collection of trained coaches, we managed to see every teacher in a learning context. The aim being to see the progress of how learning has been affected by the training that has been given to teachers over this past year and to highlight further areas of opportunity to stretch and challenge learners even further over the next year.
I am delighted to share with you that the visit proved to be extremely positive and there was clear evidence of higher order thinking skills evident throughout the school. This exciting experience shows that the Quantum Learning training has brought a clear system that enhances good quality learning that’s made the great, even greater.
Another highlight for this week has been how the Year 10 examinations have been run and completed. The first response from this seems to suggest that Year 10 learners have done really well from the examinations across all subjects. Marking is still underway and data will be shared with parents when the feedback opportunity occurs in the classroom. As a reminder for Year 10 learners and parents, no study leave has been organised or arranged for Year 10 learners, they are still covering essential aspects of the IGCSE curriculum and lessons either side of the examinations have been structured accordingly.
Next week the IGCSE examinations for Year 11 begin and as a further reminder, please ensure all learners arrive early on the day of the examination. The days and times for IGCSE examinations are set by Cambridge and any lateness or absence for these could result in no grade being awarded for that specific examination.
Finally I would like to introduce a new member of the team, Mr Raj Sathi, who as a British teacher, comes with extensive experience from teaching learners following the IGCSE level Art curriculum. Previously he has been working as a Head of Art for over 8 years in International schools in Malaysia and the UK and I am sure this wealth of experience will bring even greater strength to the school, but especially for our learners who choose to follow a creative pathway with IGCSE Art.
