On Wednesday we finally received the long anticipated confirmation that all primary classes will be back in school soon. I personally was over the moon with joy to hear that we can greet all children back in our building, ready to learn from and with each other. It has been a long time! We have been waiting three and a half months since the start of the MCO but now the dates have been set! Year 5 and Year 6 children will be back in school on Wednesday the 15th of July, Year 1 to 4 will be back one week later on Wednesday the 22nd of July. Our teams have already been preparing for the safe return of all children. In the next couple of weeks they will finalise their preparations so all will be set and ready for them when they finally enter the school building again.
Today we have sent out the timeline of events leading up to the opening of the various year groups. Our aim will be to inform you in detail on the measures that will be taken to ensure the maximum safety of all members of our community. We will be organising information sessions on Zoom to ensure that we can be in dialogue about the best conditions for a safe return to school. As indicated before, for those parents who are unable to send their children back to school and for those parents who prefer to wait, e-learning for the core-subjects will still be available as it is now.
This week, we welcomed back all our young EY learners. Without hesitation, I am happy to state that the return has been a very successful one. The children were excited to be back to meet their teachers and friends after a long break. They were excellent in following their teachers’ instructions about keeping clean and each of them safe in their own designated learning area, “Special Bubble”. Please find below Ms. Nienke’s report on those very first days back.
"Kami sangat terujaIt is so good to see the children again in our school. They have truly enjoyed being reunited with their peers and teachers! Through all these changes, our youngest learners are quickly adapting to the new agreements to ensure a clean and safe environment for themselves and their friends paving the way for the rest of the year groups.
Our Early Years teachers are supporting the children with the new social distancing and hygienic measures by holding safety briefings in the morning and at the end of the day. They have been trialing out moving around the school using the hoops to provide them with a sense of what a metre is. It will also help us when the rest of the school reopens and there will be larger streams of children moving through the building. In a fun way, through songs, rhymes and pictures, they are getting familiar with the new routines.
The teachers are brainstorming together and problem solving on a daily basis.
A challenge we are facing is to create learning opportunities for the children whilst maintaining social distancing. The teachers have been very creative in thinking about the seating arrangement in the classroom as well as how to set up the learning environment. This morning, the children were learning to program their bee bots in their own space. There were many conversations going on about how to move the bee bots from one place to another and the children were very engaged in their learning.
Like with the transition to e-learning, the team has shown great adaptability going back to classes. We now continue our journey in classes as well as via the zoom sessions and learning packs. Our next milestone is seeing all our children back in school, interaction in a safe and inspiring environment. " - By Ms Nienke. In other news, Year 1 we have been learning how to follow and write instructions. We followed instructions on how to wash our hands and brush our teeth. We also learned about the special words (imperative verb) we use when writing instructions.
Year 2 has linked their Instruction writing for literacy to the IPC unit “Green Fingers”.
The children wrote instructions on “How to make a scarecrow”. They made the scarecrows and placed it in their mini green space or garden at home which is a part of their IPC learning task.
The children in Year 3 have been working hard with their innovation of the rag to riches story that they are now editing. The children have also been dressing up and acting out the story 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'.
Year 4 has been busy innovating their discussion text (English) and solving word problems using RUCSAC. They have been using their knowledge in multiplication to plan a make-believe circus party and building a new mini resort (Maths). They have also done a fantastic job in preparing and presenting their learning during our IPC ‘Explorers and Adventurers Exit Point’.
Year 5 study of Myth and Legends - during International Mindedness we have been looking at how these stories and images are used in the world today and why.
In Year 6 this week a lot of fun and new learning has been going on. Year 6 has been investigating the relationship between the Earth and the Moon, and looking at the formation of the Sun as well! In Maths, the Year 6 students and teachers jumped into a new and engaging topic called BODMAS. As for English, the Year 6 students have started planning and drafting their information reports based on topics of interest. The Year 6 students definitely enjoyed Week 10 and are keen to learn more! Let’s all stay in our learning zone!
