I’ve been extremely proud of everyone concerned this term especially considering the situation the world finds itself in.
It is safe to say that we have found ourselves in a situation which we do not want to be in. However, before all this began we carried on from last year’s unprecedented trophy haul, winning an impressive six championships before our season got cut short. These included Basketball, Football and Badminton. Once again this is a fantastic return and shows the determination of our coaches and players to train hard and push themselves to fulfill their potential.
Another milestone achieved was the amount of students we managed to engage in at least one sport and put into teams. From the students that took part in trials, 87% of them were put into over 60 teams which is the highest retention rate we have ever produced. As a department we strive to ensure that we are inclusive to all students and push ourselves to ensure those who trial are put into a team. The only sports exempt to this are swimming (safety reasons) and Badminton (where we are only allowed to select a small squad for AIMS and KL Sports League). My team of PE teachers and Heads of PE have been integral to ensuring the highest rate of participation is achieved and I can only thank them for all their hard work over the weekends and evenings they have given up to coach and manage these talented athletes.
Away from the leagues we have participated in we have also played in many MSSD tournaments. Volleyball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Golf, the list goes on. This provided an opportunity for our elite players to be selected for MSSS, the state of Selangor. I’m proud to say that dozens of our players were selected! This just shows how well they have been coached and how hard they have trained to get to that level. We even have a couple of players, such as Esther Lim in Year 11, who have gone one step further and have a chance to represent the Malaysia national team in the near future. Watch this space!
Since we have been teaching online our Primary staff have been conducting zoom sessions to ensure our primary students stay active. This has gone down so well and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from parents. Our IGCSE Physical Education lessons have also been taught via zoom by Mr Wasim and I which we have enjoyed and, although they have had their challenges, the students high attendance rates and hard working mentality have meant that they have got through some of the hardest theory work on the course, ready for us to have more fun practical lessons when we return!
Finally I’d like to thank everyone who has been on the taylors.lightning instagram account and supported us by taking part in the TISP Daily Challenge! It has been fun to manage and to witness so many parents, students, teachers and people from other schools take part is something that shows a human side to the situation we face and has lifted morale. We will come out of this stronger, we will continue to participate in leagues and cups, and we will continue to create history like we have since we created sports teams 3 years and 3 months ago. Stay safe and hopefully I will see everyone back in school on April 20th.
