I hope that everyone enjoyed the short break over the extended weekend. It is very important that students get breaks from school so that they can then refocus their attention on their studies. The school calendar is planned to allow such breaks periodically so that students (and teachers) do not become too tired or stale in their approach to learning.
The first half term of 2023 has indeed been very busy. In recent weeks, the counselling team organised a wellbeing week centred on the idea of “let’s connect”…. to each other. Here we mean talking to and acknowledging each other. Human social interaction is key to any successful person and community. This is a hugely important part of schooling which can easily be overlooked.
We also had a Cyber Safety week to remind our students that despite the enormous positive aspects of the Internet, we also have to be aware of the potential dangers of using the internet, and how to avoid them. Social media is a prime example of something which can be very useful, yet at the same time is used too often to attack others. These are two very good examples connected to our Care.mvmt project. In this case Care for self.
In Secondary we also had a very successful Science Week, organised by the Secondary Science team. This highlighted the continued importance of science in our global society. As a Physicist myself I am particularly drawn to this, as science is at the centre of our development and many people do not realise the creative and critical thinking that is involved. The Secondary school enjoyed their assembly with the exploding table tennis balls! More details of this week can be seen in the Secondary Journal.
Finally to the cafeteria, and online ordering. We have been having some tech difficulties recently with the online ordering system, but we believe that this is now behind us. I apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
The online system has changed slightly for monthly ordering, where parents will need to identify each day what their child will be eating. This allows the flexibility to change between Asian, Western and vegetarian food on a daily basis which is more convenient for many. We are also working closely with our providers - Cezar’s Kitchen, to get future months menus online so that parents can pre-order for the term.
Stay safe
