- Closing the Term and Farewells
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Saturday, we had the 2024 Food and Games Carnival in school. It was great to see so many parents and students mixing and generously giving to this CSR event. We have the Care.Mvmt as a centre point for activities with students and this is a great event for promoting Care for others. Our students helping others who are less fortunate than themselves is a great lesson at an early age. Add to this the entrepreneur skills that are being developed by the students in deciding what their stall will be doing, how much the base costs are, and how much they would like to generate. All in all, this was a superb event and our thanks to all the teachers, students and parents who made all this possible.
SBL Bookstore:
Please be informed that we are planning to do a "roll-over" (Items in SBL E-Bookstore will be updated from 2024 Booklist to 2025 Booklist). Therefore, our E-Bookstore would be closed from 18 November to 1 December 2024 for us to do the updates.
On Friday we have the Year 11 Graduation ceremony in school. This celebrates their final day at the school after so many years and examinations. I would like to extend my best wishes to them early. It is so good in schools to see students develop and mature as they move through the school. This year's cohort is no exception. I hope that they achieve the IGCSE results that they need for their next step in their learning journey and encourage them to come back and let us know what they have moved to.
Also on Friday, we have a key member of staff retiring. Mike Moreton came to TISPC at the very start in 2015. He is the face and ethos of the Secondary school, and so many students and teachers have valued his calm and caring guidance. He has seen the secondary school grow from zero to now over 700 students, which is a huge achievement. Mike will be missed by all of us left back on the campus but his influence will live on through much of what the secondary school does. Please take the opportunity to thank him and wish him well as he retires from education and moves to the next stage in his journey. Thank you Mike.
From the Primary School
Times Tables Rock Stars Competition
This week, students from Years 2 to 6 participated in our Times Tables Rock Stars competition. Each student had 15 minutes to answer as many times table questions as possible, earning points for each correct response. Prizes will be awarded to the year group with the highest average points total, as well as to the top three scorers in each year group, during our assembly on Friday, November 8th. This initiative not only allowed students to enhance their times table skills but also fostered a spirit of friendly competition. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Shauna, our Maths Lead, for organising such an engaging and enjoyable event that encouraged students to challenge themselves and one another.
As part of the Primary Times Tables Rock Stars competition, students in Early Years and Year 1 participated in an engaging Maths Power Hour, exploring a variety of maths stations. During this time, they revisited previously learned concepts while rotating through different classes. Each class focused on a distinct maths topic, enabling students to explore shapes, patterns, and practice addition and subtraction. This interactive experience not only reinforced their understanding of numbers and numerals but also transformed revision into an enjoyable adventure. The hands-on approach fostered enthusiasm and significantly enhanced their confidence in mathematics.
Deepavali
We are delighted to share the highlights from our wonderful Primary Deepavali celebration this week. The event served as a vibrant showcase of culture, community, and creativity. A particularly special aspect of the day was the remarkable collaboration between our parents and students. Parents generously volunteered their time to teach traditional dance moves, which added a unique and personal touch to the festivities. Our students enthusiastically embraced this opportunity, learning the dances with excitement and performing them with grace and energy. Their performances beautifully reflected the rich cultural heritage associated with Deepavali, and it was heartwarming to witness everyone coming together in a spirit of joy and celebration.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who participated and to the students for their outstanding performances. This celebration truly embodied the values of unity and cultural appreciation that our school holds dear.
Y3 Writing Gallery Walk
Our dedicated Year 3 teachers and students organised an impressive gallery walk showcasing the written work from their narrative writing unit. This event allowed students to view the completed drafts of their peers' stories, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. Participants provided positive feedback to one another, reinforcing pride in their accomplishments while also offering constructive suggestions for future writing endeavours. This gallery walk represented the culmination of the creativity, guidance, continuous feedback, and effort invested by both students and teachers.
Finally it just leaves me to sign off from this final newsletter for 2024. As you are aware, I will be focusing upon TISKL in 2025 and I will pass the baton to Ms Jane Kuok. I hope that you will welcome and support her in the same way as you did for me a few years ago.
Have a peaceful, safe and relaxing break.
