- Celebrating Culture and Learning
This last week has seen the school celebrate the Lunar New Year in spectacular fashion. Last Friday the Secondary School had a superb cultural assembly, where students played the flower drums, others did a great fan dance and there was a fashion parade with staff and students. Perhaps the most memorable part of the event was the Primary school joining Secondary for the Lion Dance held on the basketball courts. This colourful and noisy event will be a real memory for all those who attended. I would like to wish everyone great happiness and prosperity.
Primary students started their new IPC units with a plethora of exciting activities, learning about the brain and metacognition. Different year groups looked into healthy habits that help stimulate the brain and its focussing power. There were team-building games, puzzles and dance; some year groups enjoyed calming yoga sessions and breathing exercises. It was delightful to see some of our young scientists conducting experiments around the school. They were seen rolling marbles onto different floor surfaces and recording the time it took for the marbles to travel. All the children ended their week wearing the most beautiful and colourful costumes to celebrate Chinese New Year. The children's cheers were as joyful and loud as our traditional yearly lion dance performance.
The Secondary School has been celebrating another set of very good results from the IGCSE exams in 2022. These were consistent with previous years, with 46% A* and A, and 83% A* to C. Congratulations to all the Y11 students from 2022 and we wish them all the best in their future studies.
This week we have Cyber Safety week, to remind everyone about safety and behaviour online. Our online behaviours can have a tremendous impact on our wellbeing. Following this Cyber Safety week, we see the whole school ‘connecting’ as part of the Wellbeing week. This is being driven by the school counsellors and sees a number of activities encouraging staff and students to talk and listen. Post pandemic, the importance of wellbeing cannot be overstated.
Have a great week ahead
