To celebrate the closing of Chinese New Year and Chap Goh Mei, Taylor's International School, Kuala Lumpur wanted to do something different, something big! That something big became something really long – 900 feet long! The traditional pickled vegetables (Yee Sang) was placed on 900 feet of tables in the school hall and soon after the lion dance performance in the courtyard, students and teachers eagerly waited for the tossing of the yee sang. More than 1900 students, teachers, and parents tossed the yee sang for good health, wealth, luck and happiness for all students, parents and also the community surrounding the school.
Mr Peter Wells, Principal of Taylor's International School said "This type of event definitely creates an enjoyable and festive atmosphere in the school, with parents appreciating that these traditional practices are being taught in the school. We take pride in being a school that practices the best of eastern and western values, so that the local traditions are preserved for the future generations." The school also emphasizes on respecting one another as part of their core value. Respecting one another's culture and values is a big part of the learning in the school.
