Term 2 brought about many changes to the way we have had to operate, whilst maintaining an academic focus and at the same time delivering positive wellbeing measures for students and teachers.
Without a doubt students have shown us resilience and a commitment to keep going and have adapted to changes very well. Our teachers have shown how they can swiftly learn new skills and continue to provide support for their students as well as additional information for parents to keep everyone informed and on track. Parents have shown their trust in the school and have accepted all the necessary changes put in place, knowing our care and concern is for their children.
We have now seen the majority of students back in school, continuing with their lives, almost as though nothing had changed. I am immensely grateful to the whole school community for allowing us to implement changes to our timetable, PTCs, Year 9 options and rescheduling of important events such as Year 11 mock exams which will now take place from August 24th to September 9th.
Term 3 will commence on August 24th from 9am to 4pm following the week B timetable. Students in school during this time will be Years 8 and 9. Year 11 will be in school for their mock exams only and will need to sign in, record their temperature, then sign out after their exams. Years 7 and 10 will have online learning during the first week of term 3.
Thank you for your continued support, have a wonderful and restful break.
Blended Learning
TISKL Secondary has been working hard to introduce strategies for successfully delivering hybrid lessons involving teaching students physically in the classroom and at the same time teaching students remotely at home. This has been implemented through the use of drawing pads, which has allowed teachers to annotate on the interactive whiteboard whilst staying close to their laptops so that they are also able to address the students learning from home via Google Meet.
During the hybrid lessons, TISKL teachers are able to use 'state of the art' online platforms to effectively check student understanding throughout our lessons in real-time and provide live feedback to ensure all students make the required levels of progress.
Year 9 Options Process
Over the past two weeks, students in Year 9 and their parents have been supported through a range of measures to begin considering IGCSE subject choices.
In school, the students attended a virtual information session from Ms May, the School Counsellor, and during their CCA time last week they researched the subjects available using TISKL's 'Pathways' site. Meanwhile, parents attended a virtual briefing and Q&A session from Mr Raj Sharma, Head of Secondary.
Students have recently completed a Google Form questionnaire asking them to indicate their provisional choices, and in the first week of Term 3, they will be asked to confirm their choices from the option blocks we are offering.
If you have questions about the IGCSEs and how to decide which ones to choose, please take a look at the Pathways site: https://sites.google.com/kl.tis.edu.my/tisklpathways/home
or contact Ms Emma (Asst Head of Secondary) rooney.emma@kl.tis.edu.my or Ms Jaya (Head of Year 9) jaya.lakshmi@kl.tis.edu.my
Coming Back to School
The rotational system of bringing our students back to school placed our priority on the safety and health issues with the pandemic still at the back of our minds.
On 24th of June, we welcomed back the senior students, Year 11. It meant they had to learn to showcase how to adhere to the SOP compliance. And proudly, they did manage to show a keen discipline of following the key procedures:-
a) Going up and down the stairs
b) Walking along our corridors
c) Hygiene of washing hands and sanitizing
d) Collect lunch boxes and have lunch in classroom
e) Dismissal with strict adherence to social distancing
Since the 15th of July, more students have returned to school. Year 7 and Year 10 students had face- to -face lessons again and the switch was immensely welcomed, based on the high attendance levels. And rotating with the Year 8 and Year 9 provided commendable attendance. It is a testimony of our community where we believe in helping each other, providing care and concern for each member of our school.
In the upcoming third academic term, beginning 24th August 2020, all things considered the same, we will be in compliance with the SOP and the rotational system still in place. However, we need to constantly stay updated with announcements pertaining to school matters.
Have a good holiday and keep safe.
