Learning goes on!
In spite of the challenges that all of us faced during Term 2, I am proud to say that teachers, students and parents were able to meet them to the best of their ability.
As time went on, teachers embraced online learning and became more and more creative in their use of applications such as Peardeck, Nearpod, Quizzizz and Bookwidget. Many students showed remarkable adaptability to the situation and were supportive of each other when technical difficulties arose.
It was remarkable to see IEYC and IPC Entry and Exit Points taking place in our virtual learning environment.
Coming back into school, the Early Years students paved the way for others. Even though their SOPs were slightly different to the primary and secondary schools, the children coped admirably with the same social distancing conditions.
The new norm quickly became routine - wearing masks, standing in your own square, washing and sanitising hands even more often, and toys being disinfected after use.
Blended learning began when Years 5 and 6 joined the school on 15th June. Teachers juggling two devices, one to display the work in the classroom and the other to include the home learners in Google Meet lessons - yet another challenge to rise to!
Based on Model 3 shared by the Ministry of Education, Years 1 to 4 restarted school on June 22nd, Group B being the first to attend. The classrooms seem strangely empty with only half the number of students attending, but the children are happy to see their friends and teachers after 4 months of home learning.
Looking ahead to Term 3
For the time being, we will continue with the rotational attendance until any new announcements are made by the government in relation to MCO and SOPs. As soon as it is possible, we aim to bring in whole classes and will notify parents and guardians as soon as any decision is made in this regard. Group B students start on Monday 24th August and Group A on Tuesday 1st September.
From 25th to 27th August, teachers will be conducting Parent Teacher Conferences via Google Meet appointments. You will have received information from your child’s class teacher. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated after this new method of communication.
Farewell and thanks
For those families who are leaving TISKL today, I wish you good luck and good health for the future. May I take this opportunity to thank you for being part of the TISKL family and hope you leave with good memories of the school. We say goodbye to Teck See (Mrs Stevens) as she and her family move to China to join a brand new school near Shanghai. All the best to the Stevens family in their new adventure.
To all Muslim families, Selamat Hari Raya Eidil Adha.
And to everyone, have a safe and happy holiday. See you in Term 3.
