As we end another busy term we look ahead to what term 3 brings… Our year 7 students have settled into secondary school and well aware of the demands on them with managing their time to complete work. They also know the routines and will soon be role models for year 6 students who will get a taster of what secondary school is like.
Year 8 students are very much settled and should start thinking about which subjects they really enjoy and connect.
Year 9 students are currently looking at options for their iGCSE subjects and will need lots of conversation and support from parents and students. They may be feeling a little anxious about the big decision ahead of them, as the choices they make will be their subjects going into years 10 and 11. There is lots of information on the Cambridge International website as well as the TISKL Pathways Google site, a link to these have been shared in a separate email.
Our Year 10 students will have covered much of the content for iGCSE and will be looking for guidance about how to make the most of study. It is useful for all students to review the weeks notes and the end of each week and these holidays provide a great opportunity to have a look through the notes of the last 2 terms.
Year 11 are now coming to an end of their study at TISKL and with that will come some nervousness about what the future holds for them. This is completely understandable as they have been supported for many years while in school. College, university and even the workplace require more independence from our year 11s. We can all help by providing factual information and guidance whenever possible. On top of all this, they will be going through exams next term. It’s important for them to have a study plan and a routine so they can revise without distraction. Studying, while the TV is on in the background is not helpful, so please provide a space for your child, away from distractions. Do allow them to take short breaks from time-to-time and engage in any activity that will help them relax and keep their mind clear for the next study session. Students should have access to water while studying, but try to allocate a separate break time for food.
To all students, parents and teachers, have a wonderful holiday, please be safe. I look forward to seeing you all again in term 3.
Debate Competition
Our Year 8 classes were involved in an inter-class debate competition to find convincing answers to "Was Nelson Mandela a terrorist?" Reuel, Priscilla Goh, Kang Bo Sung and Shreya represented Year 8T while Irise, Clarissa, Sanjana, and Shu Yie represented Year 8R. Both teams were well prepared and were able to convince the audience. It was a very interesting debate, which was enjoyed by the audience enjoyed. Year 8R emerged the winner. Congratulations to all debaters!
Mr. DJ, Puan Jumaidah and Cik Afirah were the judges and Zayn Adi Asri, the emcee of the day.
Cyber Safety Assembly
On 22nd of July 2019, during our school assembly, students from Year 7 - Year 11 had the opportunity to listen to a talk by Mr. Phillip Ling and Mr. Khaled on the topic of Cyber Bullying Awareness Talk.
A joint collaboration between Digi Malaysia and Unicef, the speakers gave a thorough insight into the uses of the Internet, discussing cyberbullying and its serious repercussions, often citing real-life incidents of its dangers.
The talks proved to be helpful to our young audience and educated them on cyber safety. It is advisable to speak with your child about cybersafety.
Sports and CCA Festival
The Sports Department together with the Co-Curricular Activity section of Taylor's International School KL conducted the Sports & CCA Festival 2019. The objective of the festival is for each club to organize an interesting activity/game related to their club which enables students to collect sports house points.
The festival was held on Friday, 19th July 2019 at the school premises for all secondary students. All the students of secondary were actively engaged with some fun challenges during the festival to contribute to their Sport House points.
The Sports & CCA Festival is a great way for students to be involved in the activities organised by Sports and CCA clubs which allows students to enjoy and learn while experiencing the challenges.
