Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Monday we saw the Chinese Dragon Boat or Dumpling Festival, celebrated worldwide on the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese calendar. A day and a month that are considered unlucky in that calendar. That started me to think about how many calendars are actively used in the World today.
The answer is over 40, and I am sure that many of our TIS families use at least two different calendars. How we keep track of time is quite interesting especially when we are spending so much time in the same place. As our lockdown continues for another two weeks, we can be accused of letting time pass us by too quickly. Even though we are at home, make an effort to maintain a routine, but at the same time take opportunities to celebrate events, and this way you keep milestones for 2021.
Last Friday the Secondary IU team did a superb, thought provoking performance entitled “Pieces of Us; looking beyond the mirror”. This event was done as an online performance with music pieces, dance sequences and acting. For those that were fortunate enough to see the performance, I am sure you were really impressed with the content and the seamless manner in which it was all put together. Congratulations to the students for a superb job, and many thanks for moving us slowly back towards routines and events that existed prior to the current pandemic.
We have just heard that we have been awarded Gold in the Reader's Digest Trusted Brand Award for 2021. This is a superb reinforcement of the schools focus on Education, and especially in this last year, our online learning provision. We have won this category many times in the last five years but it is still good to receive this great news, made all the more better, as it is voted for by parents. Thank you very much
I would also like to pass on to you, some great news from our sister institution at Taylor’s University. The World university rankings have just been announced and once again Taylor’s University comes out as the top private university in Malaysia and South East Asia. A tremendous achievement. Congratulations to them.

Finally, it leaves me to remind everyone of the need to continue to follow the SoPs. The COVID numbers in Malaysia have at the time of writing this come down slightly but are still worryingly high.
Please RESPECT those around you by staying at home, and if you need to go out, please wear a mask and keep your distance from others. Together we can help fight COVID.
Stay safe
