Welcome back to what we hope will be another action packed year of sport for Taylor’s Thunder. A reminder that although this is term 1 for the school, it is season 2 for the sports teams (as we follow the August - July calendar). A question we have to answer on numerous occasions this time of year is with regards to age groups. Although your sibling may have moved up an age group they are still in the sports group they were in in season 1.

U9 - 9 y/o or younger on 31st July 2020
U10 - 10 y/o or younger on 31st July 2020
U11 - 11 y/o or younger on 31st July 2020
U13 - 13 y/o or younger on 31st July 2020
U15 - 15 y/o or younger on 31st July 2020
O15 - Turn 16 or 17 before 31st July 2020

Example’s:
Year 5 turns 10 on 1st August 2020. Still U9 this year (until the summer holidays)
Year 8 turns 14 on 26th July 2020. Has to play U15 sport.

Primary Athletics is the only sport which is by selection only. This is due to the fact that we are only allowed one team (No Red, White or Black teams as we have in nearly all other sports). This team is usually around 50-60 students so any more than that would be simply too many for us to coach accordingly. Some students have been selected already as they performed extremely well in the School team last year or because of their performances in KS2 Track & Field day. As January progresses more students will be selected based on their performances in PE lessons.

Re-arranged KLSL U13 Girls Orange Football @ SJIIM - Mr.Ratcliffe

The U13 girls finally got to play their KLSL Cup Final on Tuesday 14th January, two months after the initial date. Having not trained for a number of months (due to the rainy season affecting nearly every training session post September) the girls were very rusty in their first game vs HELP. Although they rarely threatened the HELP GK, they managed to keep HELP to zero too thanks to a couple of good saves from the ever improving Ayuni in goal. A 0-0 draw wasn’t a bad way to start. Next up were the hosts SJIIM who had won their first game 3-0. The girls knew they had to watch their star player Maya who had scored all 3 goals in the first round. Sanjana was given the task to ‘man-mark’ her and did a fine job, restricting what she did with the ball. Just one moment of magic from her allowed to bamboozle the whole defence and allow her teammate to tap in the only goal of the game to give SJIIM their second victory. The final game vs Sri KDU would determine the finishing position. A win and second place was available, a draw and it would be third and a defeat would put them down to fourth. No pressure then! The girls had quite a few opportunites with both Maya’s going close. Likewise, Ayuni kept the Sri KDU strikers at bay with a few good interceptions. Sadly it was the girls third game without a goal but it was enough to give them third place, due to the goal difference with Sri KDU. A positive end to what has been a very frustrating year.
