Dear parents and guardians
You will be aware from the media that the number of pandemic cases has been increasing, and I would like to remind everyone to continue to take care. Please monitor your children and continue to let the school know if there is a positive case. This term, in keeping with the change in government SoP to endemic status, the school has not been issuing daily updates of the pandemic situation but we are monitoring the situation carefully. The numbers in school have been manageable, but if there comes a point to send classes home (as was done in term 1), then we will do that, and implement online learning.
We have been busy with transition in recent weeks. Primary to Secondary transition has started with Year 6 being exposed to the Secondary school. This started with a ‘moving up day’, where Year 6 students worked with Year 7 students to gain experience about the move to Secondary. Although these students have classrooms in the same building, there are differences as Y6 moves to Secondary. These are mainly centred in having more subjects and more teachers, and moving between classrooms every lesson. After the ‘moving up’ day, a lot of these concerns have been reduced and explained.
In secondary, KS4 students are now being exposed to the question “what next”, and so have had thought provoking sessions with Taylor’s University, not only our sister institution but also Malaysia’s No1 private university. As the author Steven Covey has written, ‘starting with the end in mind’ is an essential part of successful people.
For both Y6 and also KS4 students, these sessions will continue into term 3.
Now some advance notice of a returning activity in Term 3. In September we will again be having a Food and games carnival in the school car park. Students from all classes will be challenged with using their entrepreneur skills to raise money for local charities. Please watch out for details of this event as it promises to be a memorable event for 2022, and at the same time help those who really need our help.
Stay safe.
