2119 scholars. 712 teams. 28 countries. 1 venue.
The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is a grand, fun and global competition. "Celebrating learning" is the WSC tagline and In Sydney from 15-21 August 2019, learning was indeed celebrated in a sublime way as over 2000 scholars from four corners of the world gathered to pit their wits and skills against one another.
TISKL was in the mix, with 12 of our students qualifying through the regional round to compete in Sydney. We are exceedingly proud that, against many worthy international adversaries, our 4 teams managed to walk away (or flew back) with over 30 medals.
Each of our participants – Jade Siah, Asmita, Asha, Alyssa, Ayesha Sofea, Yi Xuen, Julia, So Yeon, Kareena, Marisa, Krithika and Tanish – won at least 1 medal. The top junior scholar from the school was Jade Siah Wen Yi who excelled in all three areas of writing, debate and scholastic achievement. Two of our teams qualified to advance to the final round, the Tournament of Champions, which will be held at Yale University in November.
With that said, the competition was not merely about winning medals. What was arguably more important was the journey of self-discovery that each participant underwent to reach that global stage, accompanied by the burgeoning self-belief as they advanced.
For the scholars, Sydney would forever occupy a special place in their hearts. The camaraderie that they enjoyed with each other as well as the new interactions and friendships developed during those magical days in this enchanting city would remain indelible in their memory.
