- Selamat Hari Merdeka
Dear Parents and Guardians
A warm welcome back to school for Term 3, especially those who have started TISKL for the first time. I hope that everyone had a peaceful break and time to relax, as this term promises to be as busy as previous ones!
To start this busy term, on Saturday, TISKL organised an EcoCarnival. Here the whole school came together to raise awareness and money for eco charities. Classes developed stalls using entrepreneurial skills to raise money for charity but to do so using minimal waste therefore promoting the eco theme. It was yet again a superb event, showing the whole community coming together. The charities benefiting from this Carnival were:
Kitaran - Recycling plastic and reducing landfill.
Zero Waste Malaysia - advocating sustainable development
Eco Knights - work to drive and empower sustainable actions for a better planet
Malaysian Nature Society - working to save habitats for Malaysia's indigenous plants and animals.
Reef Check Malaysia - coral reef management and conservation
Thank you to all our parents who came and generously spent money for food, drink and games. Unfortunately the weather didn’t support us and we had rain for the first time in many years, but this didn’t put people off and the carnival continued in full swing. Please see the respective Primary and Secondary Journals for more photographs.
An enormous thank you to everyone involved, staff and students for the stalls, and parents for their generosity. We will publish the actual amount raised itn he coming days, once all the details have been brought together.
At the end of last term, we implemented Vircle for cashless payments in the cafeteria and elsewhere. The feedback from this change has been positive, but if you have any questions please feel free to contact the school, or Vircle. One aspect of Vircle that we ask for your help with, is to add a photograph of your child(ren) to the app. Once this happens, the cafeteria staff will be able to see the image of your child when they are paying for food. This then adds another layer of security to this system.
I would like to Remind you that earlier this year (22nd Feb) we informed parents about a change to the holiday arrangements for Deepavali. This involved moving a school holiday from Thursday 5th October to Tuesday 14th November, to allow a longer break for the school community celebrating Deepavali. Please check your version of the calendar to make sure it looks like this.
And last but certainly not least, Malaysia celebrates Merdeka on Thursday, and so the school will have holidays on Thursday and Friday. I would like to wish all of our Malaysian community a very happy independence day.
“Selamat Hari Merdeka”
Stay safe.
